Microsoft Office Fluent UI Redesign
The most notable change is to the ribbon. Microsoft says this will be a more modern, clean, and simplified look that will be highly customizable. You can load it up with the tools you use most during the day and remove the ones you never need. it will also be collapsible to a single line that looks like a toolbar. The web version of Word will see the new ribbon design first and select Office Insiders will start to see the new ribbon for Outlook in July. The company is holding off a bit on rolling out the new ribbon to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint until more Insider testing has been completed. The ribbon redesign is meant to provide a more simplified way for you to get things done. Still, even after it’s rolled out to everyone, and you’re not a fan or want to ease into the new design, you’ll have the ability to revert to a classic ribbon with one click.
New colors and icons are coming for each Office app, too. The new design is meant to provide a more modern look and the icons will be scalable. This means they will render well on any size display. Microsoft says the new colors and icons will appear first in the web version of Word on Office.com. Later this month, some Office Insiders will see them come to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for Windows and will start to roll out to Mac users in August.
This overhaul will also feature a new search experience. It will provide access to commands, content, and people. With what Microsoft is calling “zero query search” you can place the cursor in the search box and recommendations will be brought up using AI and leveraging Microsoft Graph. Commercial users can see the new search experience in action in Office.com, SharePoint Online, and the Outlook mobile app. It will then start rolling out to commercial users of Outlook on the web in August. Most of the users do not want bulk change from what has taken then years to get used to, and imbedded in their muscle memory. What we want is for the glitches to be fixed As in: Get EDGE to work at least as well as IE 8 did Stop moving settings around – and more importantly, stop removing or hiding them. Re the Onedrive facility that is currently used as an inducement to get people to take a Onedrive subscription. Get the interface to the work properly, – as in: Stop the misreporting of actions and alerts – as in reporting file already exists when processing the upload to a new folder Process folders of files – so the image files associated with .htm sets can be uploaded as part of the file upload ( you may remember that processing the .htm and the file set as one is a file-explorer option say COPY when taking a COPY – do not state MOVE Process the selected files – all of them Do not process part of a selection, and then select some different files Allow font scaling to effect the number of characters in the entry fields of a line – scaling to 50% does not mean I want the display area to be 50% spaces – it means I want to see more characters in the line. Get the comments ( as in context related help) to be appropriate and correct it has just Allowing users to see full filenames in the folder and file list And – re file explorer – show the space (size) of selected files and folders – even if the user selects more than 99 of them. Re Recycle bin – It would be nice to have an indication that the bin contains much more than expected – BEFORE the Permanent Erasure process starts – Yes – there is several years work for the development staff to FIX the current glitches and restore functionality before embarking on a new set of changes
